What Is Elementor Pro — and Is It Worth Paying For?
If you build or run a WordPress site, you’ve almost certainly bumped into Elementor — and the nudge to upgrade to “Pro.” So is it just an upsell, or does the paid version actually earn its keep? As a studio that builds on Elementor every day, here’s our honest take on what you’re really paying for.
Elementor is the drag-and-drop builder that lets you design WordPress pages visually, without code. The free version is genuinely capable. Pro is a paid yearly upgrade that unlocks a different level of control. The question is whether you need that level — and for many businesses, the answer is yes.
What the Free Version Gives You
Let’s be fair to free Elementor: it’s good. You can design individual pages and posts with a solid set of widgets, and for a simple site it may be all you ever need. Where it stops is that it only controls the content area of a page — the bits in the middle — not the whole site.
What Pro Actually Unlocks
The headline feature is the Theme Builder. Free Elementor edits your pages; Pro lets you design every part of the site visually — your header, footer, blog layouts and more — instead of being stuck with whatever your theme decides. On top of that you get a proper form builder (for contact and enquiry forms that connect to your email tools), a popup builder, WooCommerce widgets for online stores, and a much bigger library of widgets and templates. In short: free designs pages, Pro designs the whole website.
So Is It Worth It?
For a genuinely simple site, free may be enough. But for most business websites — anything with a custom header and footer, contact forms, a blog, or a shop — Pro’s Theme Builder and form builder alone usually justify the cost, which starts at around USD 60 a year for one site. It’s a modest yearly fee for a lot more control, and it saves the workarounds and extra plugins you’d otherwise need on free.
The Honest Caveat
Two things to keep in mind. It’s a subscription — you keep paying yearly to continue getting updates and support. And Pro’s power makes it easy to over-build: piling on widgets and effects until the site slows down. The tool is excellent; it still needs a light hand. Used well it’s brilliant; used carelessly it can bloat a site.
