Which AI Is Best for Building a Website? Here's the Honest Answer
Every few weeks a client sends us a link: “Can I use this to build my website?” Sometimes it’s Wix. Sometimes it’s Framer. Lately it’s Lovable, or a tool nobody had heard of six months ago promising a “live website in 60 seconds.”
The AI website builder space has genuinely matured. Layouts don’t look broken anymore, copy isn’t obviously robotic, and for a simple site, these tools can get you most of the way there before lunch.
But “which AI is best” is the wrong question. The right one is: best for what — and what happens after it’s built?
The Current Shortlist
Wix AI — The most mature all-rounder. Good for small businesses that want hosting, e-commerce, and bookings bundled into one platform. AI handles layout and first-draft copy; you edit inside Wix’s own ecosystem.
Framer AI — The design-forward choice. Best for studios and personal brands where visual polish matters most. Less suited to sites needing heavier customisation later.
Squarespace AI — Template-first and reliable. A safe, low-learning-curve middle ground.
10Web / Elementor AI (Angie) — Closest to home for us, since it builds on WordPress — the most portable, widely-supported platform on the web. An AI-generated WordPress site isn’t a dead end; any developer, including us, can pick it up and extend it.
Lovable / Bolt / v0 — Code-first tools built for developers building full applications, not business owners who just need a site that takes enquiries. Powerful, but you’ll hit a wall the moment something needs fixing, because fixing it means reading code.
What the Demo Never Shows You
Every AI builder makes the first five minutes feel magical. What it doesn’t show you is month six — when the domain renewal notice goes to nobody, the contact form breaks, or the business outgrows its template and “vendor lock-in” stops being a phrase in an article and starts being why the site can’t move.
AI can write the first draft of a website in a minute. It can’t renew an SSL certificate, respond to a hosting outage at 11pm, or catch that a “quick fix” is about to break the checkout page. That part was never part of the pitch.
Where ELF Digital Studio Comes In
We’re not anti-AI — these tools have made “I need a website” a much less intimidating sentence for small business owners to say. What we’ve built ELF Digital Studio around is the part after that sentence: making sure whatever AI-built site you launch has a safe, stable home — domain set up correctly, reliable hosting, security and backups in place, and someone to call when something breaks.
One brand, one identity. Growing with you. Let AI handle the first draft. Let us handle the parts that need to still be working in three years.
Got an AI-built website you’re not sure is launch-ready? Talk to us first — we’ll tell you honestly, and take care of the technical part from there.
