5 Signs Your Website Needs a Redesign

5 Signs Your Website Needs a Redesign

Your website has been quietly doing its thing for a few years now. It works — mostly — so you’ve left it alone. But every so often a nagging thought pops up: is this thing actually helping my business, or holding it back? A website doesn’t have to be broken to be costing you customers. Here are five honest signs it’s time for a redesign.

None of these on its own is an emergency. But if you find yourself nodding along to two or three, your site is probably working against you more than for you.

1. It Looks Dated

Design trends move, and a site that looked sharp in 2018 can quietly signal “this business is behind the times” today. Worse is when it no longer matches who you are — you’ve grown, refined your brand, changed what you offer, but the website still shows the old you. Since your site is often a customer’s first impression, a dated look plants doubt before they’ve read a single word.

2. It Doesn't Work Well on Phones

This is the big one. More than 60% of web traffic now comes from mobile — in many markets far more — yet plenty of older sites still make people pinch, zoom and squint on their phones. If yours isn’t comfortable to use one-handed on a small screen, you’re frustrating the majority of your visitors, and Google quietly notices too.

3. It's Slow to Load

Speed quietly kills. Studies show the chance of someone leaving jumps by around a third when load time goes from one second to three. If your pages take more than a few seconds to appear, a big share of visitors are gone before they ever see what you offer — and no clever copy or design can win back someone who has already left.

4. Visitors Leave Fast — and Few Get in Touch

If people land on your site and leave almost immediately, or you get plenty of visitors but hardly any enquiries or sales, that’s a message. A site that isn’t converting usually has a clarity problem — confusing layout, unclear next step, weak messaging. When the traffic is there but the results aren’t, the website itself is often the bottleneck.

5. It's a Pain to Update (or You Can't)

If making a simple change means calling someone, wrestling with a clunky backend, or just avoiding it entirely, your site is holding you back. A modern site should be easy to keep current — and one you’re afraid to touch tends to quietly rot, with old prices, outdated info and dead links slowly driving customers away.
